Welcome to Coates Traditional Butchers

Our Traditional Alrewas Butchers shop was first established in 1867 and taken over by the Coates family in 1900. Today the business is run by the family’s third and fourth generation, father and son Peter and Antony Coates and we now have a further three shops located in Tamworth, Staffordshire, Borrowash, Derbyshire and Wollaton, Nottinghamshire.

For over 150 years we have prided ourselves on our quality service and value for money and we strive to ensure that we cater for all our customers’ culinary needs.

Our meat is sourced from the best local farms and livestock markets meaning that when you purchase from us you are not only receiving the best you can buy but you are also helping us to support the local countryside, something that as a business we are very passionate about.

Our shops provide you with both a traditional and continental approach to the way in which our meats are prepared and displayed. Our counters will entice you with a superb selection, from the traditional English cuts to the more exotic marinades and oriental stir-fry’s. We also produce our own sausage and bacon as well as a wide range of homemade bakery products.

Our team of friendly, skilled butchers can cut any joint that you require. Need a rack of lamb for a dinner party? No problem. Want something you just saw a celebrity chef cook? We will be more than happy to come up with the right cut for your recipe.

The finest farm fresh meats & poultry

We've been providing the finest fresh meat and poultry to our customers for over 150 years. 

Sourcing from the best local farmers and carefully selected livestock markets, we keep food miles down and guarantee the quality of the produce we sell. We ensure our suppliers observe the highest standards of animal welfare.

We also offer an extensive range of marinated meats, ideal for barbecues. 

Speciality cured meats, sausages, pies & burgers

We offer an amazing selection of sausages, bacon & gammon and home-made pies and pasties.

Our sausages are so popular we make over 1.5 tonnes per week! Our bacon and gammon is cured on site, with our specially-installed oak smoker adding that extra flavour. Not forgetting our range of beef, lamb and game burgers, all freshly prepared in-house.

Our home-made pies are made from organic flour and are brim-full with lean meat.

Hog Roasts

Whether you are hosting a private party, corporate event, wedding or public function, hiring a hog roast from us is a fun, easy and especially tasty way to feed your guests.

Since we introduced this service in Summer 2011 it has proved very popular. Our hog roasts are a great focal point for any occasion - what better way for your guests to see and smell what they are eating!

We provide fully-trained staff to operate the equipment and prepare the meat for serving.

Just one of our hog roasts can feed up to 150 guests. For something a little different, you can also choose from a selection of lamb and beef cuts.
